What this site collects, and what it doesn't.
This policy explains how Written From Japan (https://writtenfromjapan.com) handles information about the people who visit it.
The short version
This is a static website. It has no accounts, no login, no comments, no newsletter, and no forms. There is nothing here for you to fill in, and consequently there is almost nothing to collect. I do not sell, rent or share personal information, because I do not have any to sell.
Information collected automatically
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare records basic technical information when a page is served — IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time of the request. This is used for delivering the site, security, and aggregate traffic counts. It is not used to build a profile of you, and I do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
Cookies
This site sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies for security and performance purposes.
Analytics
I may use a privacy-respecting analytics service to see which articles are being read and roughly where readers come from. Where analytics are in use, the data is aggregated and is not used to identify individuals. If a provider is added or changed, this page will be updated to name it.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site go to Amazon.com and carry an affiliate code. When you follow one, Amazon can tell that you arrived from this site, and may set its own cookies in your browser so that any resulting purchase is attributed correctly.
What happens on Amazon is governed by Amazon's own privacy notice, not by this one. I never see your name, your address, your payment details, or what you bought — only anonymous, aggregated reports of how many items were ordered.

Third parties
The site loads no advertising networks, no social media widgets, no embedded trackers, and no external fonts. Pages are plain HTML and CSS. Following an outbound link — to Amazon or anywhere else — takes you to a site with its own policies, which you should read if you're concerned.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information held about you. Since this site holds no personal information about its readers, there is normally nothing to act on — but if you believe otherwise, write to me at hello@writtenfromjapan.com and I will respond.
Changes to this policy
If the site changes in a way that affects this policy — analytics, a newsletter, anything that collects information — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
